Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS A COFFEE ENEMA?

An enema is a procedure for cleansing your colon and detoxifying naturally, safely and in complete privacy.  The process involves filling a bag of water with a liquid, such as a coffee solution. The bag has a tube at one end and the other end is lubricated and inserted into the rectum. You need to lie on your side with your knees drawn up to the chest for the enema to reach the colon.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A COFFEE ENEMA?

Coffee enemas assist the body in several ways – the most beneficial qualities are that a liquid coffee reaches the liver and assists the liver in detoxifying toxins from the liver and the function of the enema then helps to then remove these toxins from the body – the enema procedure also helps to clear the colon of built-up waste helping to also relieve constipation.

WATER ENEMA OR COFFEE ENEMA - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

These two come together. Doing a water enema before a coffee enema helps to remove the waste in the lower colon – this will make the process of coffee enema smooth and more effective. Once the lower colon is empty it will be easier to hold the coffee enema in for the full needed 15-20 minutes allowing the coffee to reach the liver sooner. A coffee enema without doing a water enema first can cause a bowel movement.

CAN I DO A COFFEE ENEMA IF I DON’T HAVE A GALLBLADDER?

Absolutely!!  This can help the liver which has extra detoxing responsibilities now that you no longer have a gall bladder.

DOES A COFFEE ENEMA HELP TO PREVENT CONSTIPATION?

Regular bowel movements as a result of enema detox relieve constipation and prevent toxins from being released into the bloodstream. A clean colon also helps in reducing the risk of other irritations and illnesses such as hemorrhoids and varicose veins.

CAN A COFFEE ENEMA ASSIST WITH WEIGHT LOSS?

Foods which aren’t rich in fibre produce excessive mucous which sticks to the intestinal walls. This weighs down the intestinal tract with decaying waste matter.

An average human colon can hold about eight meals before the process of digestion begins. An enema colon cleanse can clear the intestinal tract of waste matter quickly, which kick-starts the metabolism and helps refocus the mind on making the right food choices required for a successful weight loss program.

CAN A COFFEE ENEMA IMPROVE CONCENTRATION?

When toxins build up in your colon, your body does not get the nutrients required to function efficiently. The condition is made worse by a poor diet.  As a result, one feels sluggish and tired which impacts work, relationships and overall health.  An enema colon cleanse allows the nutrients to be absorbed again, resulting in better focus, alertness and an improvement in overall health.

WILL A COFFEE ENEMA HELP MY DIGESTION?

The digestive system functions at its best when the liver is working optimally.  If the liver & surrounding organs are loaded with toxins then they struggle to function normally and to process food and anything that is ingested.  A coffee enema will assist the liver to produce Glutathione which will in turn, detoxify the liver and therefore improve digestion.

Likewise, if undigested waste remains in the body for long periods of time, the digestive system becomes sluggish.  An enema detox makes it easy for undigested waste to pass out through your body.  Forcing the waste out of your body in this way allows important nutrients to be absorbed improving the health of your digestive system.

HOW DO I DO A COFFEE ENEMA?

Assemble the equipment by following the instructions on the enema kit, ensuring the bag is at the right height. Since you will be laying down, the bag should be about 60 to 90 cms higher than you. If it is too high water will overflow, if it’s too low water flow will slow down to a trickle. Make sure the tap on the tube is in the OFF position then fill the bag/bucket with the desired amount of enema liquid – hold the end with the tip over the sink and turn the tap on and off quickly to initiate the liquid flow and to remove any air from the tube. Hanging the bag on the back of the bathroom door on a towel hook usually works well.
Lay down your mat/towels on the bathroom floor quite close to where the bag is hanging. Lubricate your anus and the tip of your enema tube. This will make insertion easy.
Lie on your right-hand side with your knees drawn toward your chest, then slowly insert the tube into your anus. Gently insert about 7 centimetres of the nozzle into the rectum or whatever you are comfortable with.
Gently turn the valve or release the clamp so the liquid begins flowing. Go slowly – don’t turn the tap completely on, just go with what is comfortable. What’s important is to take in and retain the enema. Going too fast stimulates peristaltic action in the rectum, creating an immediate need to expel. In some instances, it can also result in cramping, which is very uncomfortable.
Since this is the first enema, some faecal matter may be present in the colon causing an urge to expel immediately. If this happens, repeat the process after evacuation and hold the liquid a little longer the second time. If you experience cramping stop the flow, take a deep breath, and allow a minute for the cramps to subside. When you feel you can’t hold any more enema solution (usually up to one litre), remove the nozzle very gently and keep lying on the floor.
Gently massage your abdomen so the water moves up through the colon. Start with the bottom left corner of your abdomen and move up toward the rib cage. Next, massage your upper abdomen moving to the right side.
Finally, massage the right side of your abdomen near your pelvis to help the enema ascend into the colon. Reverse the sequence of massage when removing the enema solution. The objective is to retain the enema solution between 5 to 15 minutes before expulsion (depending on the solution you are retaining).
You will need to sit on the toilet for some time while you continue to expel the enema solution.

HOW DO I PREPARE THE COFFEE ENEMA SOLUTION?

The beauty of using coffee grinds for your enema is that you can tailor the strength to suit your needs. As a starting point, we recommend the following:
Use 1 tablespoon of coffee granules to one cup of water. Always use filtered or distilled water. You can make up as much or as little liquid as you like depending on how often you are doing an enema.
Make sure you consider the shelf life of this product when working out the amount to brew – it is recommended that the solution be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
This recipe is fairly concentrated but it means you do not have to use as much solution for your enema – we recommend using 300ml-500ml for your enemas based on this recipe. You are welcome to use more if that suits you.
Bring the water to a boil then add the granules and simmer for 20 minutes. While the liquid is still warm, carefully pour it through a fine-mesh sieve and into a jug, let it cool then cover and keep in the fridge. You can also use a glass jar/s with a lid if you prefer.
When you are ready to do an enema, simply pour the desired amount straight from the refrigerated jug or jar into your enema bag or bucket. You may prefer to pour from the refrigerated jug into a measuring jug first if you would like to know the exact amount you are going to use. Now you are ready to do the enema.
Note: Not for oral consumption. Please consult your healthcare practitioner for further advice about using this product.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO PERFORM AN ENEMA?

An enema kit

Enema Coffee (coffee for enemas is not drinking coffee, it is made especially for enema use only).

The best place to give yourself an enema is in the bathroom (ie, close to the toilet) lying on a couple of towels for comfort and possible spillage.  If you have one, lay a yoga mat on the ground first and put the towels on that for extra comfort.  A pillow can help support your neck too.

Spring or Filtered water

Lubricant

Your phone/watch (to time your enema – you are aiming to hold the liquid for 15-20 mins)

A good book!

WHAT ARE THE BEST CLEANING METHODS

You may thoroughly wash the steel enema buckets in soapy hot water or a dishwasher. You can turn the silicone bags inside out and wash them with water and soap.

It is recommended that you clean your equipment in 3% hydrogen peroxide once a fortnight for an intensive clean.  Soak the parts and bag/bucket for an hour in the hydrogen peroxide, rinse and dry before storing.

HOW OFTEN DO I CHANGE MY ENEMA TIP

It really depends on your usage but we recommend that you upgrade your tip when it becomes quite discoloured.
